TRUST Leadership Retreat

We are so excited to welcome the E24 cohort of TRUST Scholars to Camp Lutherhaven, ID, for the WWAMI TRUST Leadership Retreat, from August 20-22, 2025! We are in the process of updating this information so that it is current for our 2025 Retreat, but you can use this page to get a general idea of what to expect (details subject to change).

Packing List

TRUST Scholars will be staying in the Good Earth Lodge cabins which have bunk beds and shared restrooms. The camp will provide linens (bedding) & bath towels. Please pack the following:

  • Comfortable, every-day clothes
    • Invited guests and some WWAMI Clinical Deans will be joining us, though the expected attire is casual. There will be a mix of indoor and outdoor activities, so we recommend you bring layers. On average, daytime highs are in the mid-80s, nighttime lows are in the mid-50s.
    • You can also view this photo collage of previous Retreats to get an idea of what students brought for attire.
  • Toiletries
  • Water bottle
  • Bug repellent
  • Sunscreen
  • Flashlight
  • Sunglasses
  • Comfortable shoes for uneven terrain
  • Personal snacks – if you need something to eat between the provided meals
    • Personal snacks/food MUST be enclosed in a mice-proof container in order to be allowed in the lodging areas. Mice are common around the camp, so ensuring food is in a secure container such as a tupperware or bear canister goes a long way in keeping them out of the cabins.
    • There is also a refrigerator available to us, so we are able to store cold items for you if needed.
  • *Optional personal/comfort items
    • Laptop/tablet – in case you’d like to take notes electronically
    • Journal/pen – for note-taking or personal journaling
    • Reading book
    • Cards or games to share during free time
    • Earplugs/Eye mask – if needed when sleeping in communal quarters
  • FYI – Verizon wireless reception is spotty and there is no AT&T cell reception at the resort. There is wi-fi available.

Camp Lutherhaven Policies and Notes

Cellular service: Verizon wireless reception is spotty and there is no AT&T cell reception at the resort. There is Wi-Fi available.

Camp Amenities: There will be a bit of unscheduled time for you to make use of the various activities at the retreat center. Please visit the Camp Lutherhaven website to check out the various amenities available.

Liability Release Forms: All guests will be required to fill out a Program Participant Activity & Liability Release Form which we will have available at sign in/arrival.

Smoking and Alcohol: Camp Lutherhaven is smoke-free; smoking is not permitted on-site. Please be advised that alcohol is only allowed in our meeting space and in the guest rooms. It is not allowed in the dining hall, the beach area, or anywhere outside. There will be other groups in attendance at the Camp while we are there, and we would like to be respectful of other guests. Please also be mindful of your fellow TRUST scholars and TRUST faculty/speakers as you will be in communal spaces for the majority of the Retreat.

Service Animals: Per Camp Lutherhaven’s regulations, only ADA service animals are allowed onsite.

Travel Reimbursement & Driving Directions

The Office of Rural Programs will be processing travel mileage reimbursements for students if they drove to the Retreat. Per UWSOM policy, reimbursement will be the student mileage rate of $.3055/mile for the mileage from your Foundations campus to the Retreat (even if you drove from a different location).  Alaska students who are flying to Spokane should reach out to Shyla Cochran-Dema regarding your travel logistics or questions.

We strongly encourage you to carpool to the Retreat if possible, to save car space, spend time with your TRUST peers, and reduce mileage costs and emissions. If you would like to be connected with a carpool, we are happy to help facilitate options for you!

Here’s a link to the Google map from Coeur d’Alene – anyone driving from east or west of CDA can follow these directions, including from the Spokane airport. Some of the turns are not quite obvious, though there are yellow and green Lutherhaven signs once you turn off of Hwy 95. For example, where it says, “slight right onto W Valhalla Road,” that’s an actual turn off of Kidd Island Road, not just a bend in the road. Same with the turn from W Valhalla Road to W Lutherhaven Road.

When you arrive, drivers can park their cars in the main camp parking lot, then all students should directly head to the Welcome Center for check-in, before going to cabins or anywhere else.

Check-in for the Retreat begins at 11AM with our first activity beginning at 12:00PM. Lunch will be served on 8/20 after our Welcome session. Our group will be utilizing the Retreat Center Lodge, the Good Earth Lodge, and the Chapel. A site map can be found HERE.

What to Expect for Food

If you previously submitted a food allergy, sensitivity, or diet preference, we have passed that information on to Camp Lutherhaven. All meals will be served buffet style, allowing guests to self-select the items that are more appealing/appropriate for them. Coffee and tea will be available during the Retreat sessions, and there are grocery stores not too far away. We may have a few snacks available but recommend students bring their own snacks if they know they will need food between the provided meals. As previously stated, please keep all snacks in mice-proof storage.

Agenda

Please view the TRUST Retreat Agenda HERE. Sessions and timing are subject to change (though we don’t predict any major changes at this point!)

Please Thank Our Donors: Thank View video

This Leadership Retreat was made possible by a generous donation. Throughout your time at the Retreat, please take pictures, notes, and anecdotes so that we can upload them to the Thank View video platform. This allows our donors to virtually experience the Retreat alongside you.
