Thermopolis is ringed by mountains, with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Big_Horn_Mountains\">Big Horn Mountains<\/a>\u00a0to the northeast, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bridger_Mountains_(Wyoming)\">Bridger Mountains<\/a>\u00a0to the southeast, the\u00a0Owl Creek Mountains\u00a0to the southwest and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Absaroka_Range\">Absaroka Range<\/a>\u00a0to the northwest. Thermopolis is the southern-most municipality in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Big_Horn_Basin\">Big Horn Basin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Roundtop Mountain, on the northern edge of town, is a unique geological formation shaped much like a volcano. It sits at approximately 6,000 feet and is the highest area in the immediate vicinity of Thermopolis.<\/p>\n<p>A large body of water,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boysen_Reservoir\">Boysen Reservoir<\/a>, lies approximately 17 miles south of Thermopolis and is inhabited by many native species of fish including\u00a0rainbow trout,\u00a0cutthroat trout,\u00a0brown trout,\u00a0walleye,\u00a0northern pike\u00a0and\u00a0perch\u00a0among others.<\/p>\n<p>According to the\u00a0United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.47 square miles, of which, 2.38 square miles of it is land and 0.09 square miles is water.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table border=\"0\" width=\"90%\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"10\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<p align=\"center\"><span class=\"writesiteContentTitle\"><strong>Student Perspectives:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<span class=\"TextRun SCXW214250025 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW214250025 BCX0\">The preceptors that I worked with were amazing. Our providers work in all three locations, providing a wide variety of family practice opportunities serving the southern Big Horn Basin and Fremont County.<\/p>\n<p>Hot Springs Health is a new hospital completed in 2020 with new patient care areas including a new ER, Surgical Suites, Labor and Delivery Suites, Med\/Surg Rooms in addition to new ambulance bays, out patient clinic area for visiting providers.<\/p>\n<p>Hot Springs Health offers great technology including a new MRI, 64 slice CT, nuclear medicine, ultrasound and a full spectrum laboratory.<\/p>\n<p>We are fortunate, all of our FPs choose to practice full spectrum family medicine including surgical obstetrics, emergency medicine, hospitalist, stress testing and an active clinic practice which allows continuity of patient care.\u00a0 Students are welcomed in all areas to work with the full time FPs and visiting specialists including general surgery\/endoscopy, orthopedics and the cardiology clinic: <a href=\"https:\/\/hotspringshealth.com\/hsh-thermopolis\/\">Hot Springs Heath Thermopolis<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-family: inherit;font-size: inherit\">Hospital:<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: inherit;font-size: inherit\"> Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital (HSCMH) is a state-licensed, Medicare certified, 25-bed Critical Access Hospital located in Hot Springs State Park, 150 E. Arapahoe Street, Thermopolis, WY 82443.\u00a0 HSCMH serves the residents of Hot Springs County and the surrounding areas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Long Term Care<\/strong>: Thermopolis Rehabilitation and Care Center is a privately owned nursing and rehabilitation facility in Thermopolis for people with chronic health conditions or injuries that require long-term care, constant monitoring and 24-hour-a-day availability of doctors, nurses and health care aides. Nearly 2,000,000 acres of wilderness within a short distance of Thermopolis.\u00a0 Yellowstone National Park is 2.5 hours away.\u00a0 Grand Teton National Park is four hours away.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Climate<\/strong><br \/>\nThe elevation is 4,331 feet above sea level.\u00a0 Low humidity, warm to hot summers, cool to cold winters.
