Step 2 Updates

Dear students,

With the new announcements from Prometric and NBME, we are finally able to provide some more information for you regarding the Step 2 exams. We acknowledge that we still do not have all the answers yet and we know that many of you may have your tests cancelled or are scheduled for the upcoming weeks, and we are sorry for the additional stress that this uncertainty is causing.

Please know that your online non-clinical elective instructors and your clerkship directors are being informed that you may need to be excused to sit for the exam. If this applies to you, please advise them as soon as you secure a date for your exams.

Step 2 CK
Current testing status: While Prometric is extending the closure of their testing centers through May, USMLE has been designated an “essential program” so Step 2 CK testing is scheduled to resume on May 1 or later. Testing sites will re-open on a site-by-site basis in accordance with local guidelines.

Current scheduling status: To comply with local guidelines, the number of active testing workstations will be reduced at each testing center. Prometric will cancel a random selection of appointments, and impacted candidates will be notified directly by Prometric with information about rescheduling your exam.

Current deadline for completion:

* You are not required to complete the CK exams by your original deadline date.
* You are still required to pass the exam prior February 17, 2021, so that you can be certified to participate in the match.
* We recommend you complete the exam as soon as possible so that you have a passing score for residency programs to review during the application season. Note that many residency programs create their rank lists in January.
Testing requirements: In order to sit for the exam, you are required to abide by the enhanced protocols set forth by Prometric<https://www.prometric.com/corona-virus-update> (e.g. required masks and gloves). Be sure to review these requirements on the Prometric website now as you are required to supply several of these items.

Step 2 CS
Current testing status: Step 2 CS testing is suspended until at least June 1, 2020.

Current scheduling status: Scheduling functionality in the Step 2 CS Calendar and Scheduling System has been temporarily suspended.

Current deadline for completion:

* You are not required to complete the CS exams by your original deadline date.
* You are still required to pass the exam prior February 17, 2021, so that you can be certified to participate in the match.
* Based on the current Step 2 CS score reporting schedule<https://www.usmle.org/step-2-cs/#reporting> (and assuming feasibility and testing resumes as planned), we recommend you complete the exam by November 7, 2020.
